Retinal photography is a useful tool to assist in detecting and monitoring eye conditions, as well as for recording your eye health history. They can help track progression of conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, and more! Retinal photos are an excellent tool for your optometrist to explain your eye health to you during your eye exam.
This recommended service is not currently covered under Nova Scotia’s Medical Services Insurance (MSI) program or through the Department of Community Services. Patients whose routine eye exams are covered by MSI (including patients under 9, over 65, and/or with underlying health conditions) or DCS will be responsible for the $20.00 fee for retinal photographs effective immediately.
